Deamin-8-D arginine vasopressin (Desmopressin acetate or DDAVP) is a synthetic analog of antidiuretic hormone, which stimulates the release of von Willebrand factor from endothelial sites. This stabilizes factor VIII and enhances platelet adhesion to the blood vessel wall.

Desmopressin is indicated in the management of von Willebrand disease (VWD) and mild hemophilia A (inherited factor VIII deficiency). Desmopressin may also be used in patients with liver cirrhosis to shorten or normalize prolonged bleeding time in patients during invasive procedures; however, evidence to support this use is limited.13
